Tema: Regional Commander meets stakeholders over Songor Salt stalemate

The Tema Regional Police Commander DCOP Barima Tweneboah Sasraku II, has met with some key stakeholders in the Ada Songor Lagoon Basin concession brouhaha following weeks of agitations and bloody attacks.

The commander, who met the Traditional council, the two DCE’s, and officials of Electrochem Ghana Limited, called on all parties to exercise restraint as the command begin work to ensure peace in the area.

The meeting by the Tema regional Police Commander with the various actors in matter, follows last weekend’s clashes which led to some natives of Toflokpo-Salom who are against Electrochem Ghana Limited’s take over of the Ada salt basin, sustaining gun shots wounds in their attempt to prevent ongoing surveying works by workers of the company.

DCOP Sasraku II, who was in the company of his Deputy commander and other senior officials of the command, called on the chief of Ada, Nene Abram Kabu Akuaku III, and his sub-chiefs, to repose their trust in the police administration in ensuring peace prevail in the area. He described last week’s incident as unfortunate, warning such attacks and lawlessness will not be countenance in the District or the region again.

He called on all feuding factions to use the appropriate channels in seeking redress or registering their objection to the deal.

Paramount chief of Ada, Nene Abram Kabu Akuaku III, who spoke through his secretary, expressed the traditional council’s full support of the project, urging the police to deal with persons causing trouble in the area through their objection to the agreement.

He also called on the command to support the district with more personnel to deal with rising cases of crime there.
