Elder Dr. Samuel Nana Amo Tobbin, Executive Chairman of the Tobinco Group of Companies, has emphasized that his recent legal vindication holds more significance than the financial compensation awarded him by an Accra High Court.
The court ruling marked a significant victory over former FDA boss, Dr. Stephen Opuni, in a case that has lingered for years.
The renowned entrepreneur was speaking on Channel One TV’s Point of View with Bernard Avle on Wednesday night.
Even though the court awarded GHC 93 million, a fraction of the initially sought $18–20 million, Dr. Tobbin made it clear that the monetary compensation was not his primary concern.
“The total demanded from the court was $18–20 million, yes, but this (GHC 93 million) is what the court gave us. And even this one, the joy I have in me is that the things on the internet that we have been importing fake drugs, this thing will come and clean it,” he stated.
For Dr. Tobbin, the true victory lies in clearing his name and safeguarding his legacy.
He spoke passionately about the allegations’ impact, not just on his business but also on his family and future generations. “I didn’t want anyone to boldly walk up to any of my children or future generations and tell them that I imported fake drugs.”
The vindication is enough; if not, I would have gone for an appeal,” he said. Reflecting on the journey, Dr. Tobbin attributed his resilience and eventual triumph to the protection of God. He acknowledged that the false accusations challenged him and his company, but ultimately, they emerged stronger.
The damage challenged us to work harder to bounce back better,” he added. This victory serves as a testament to Tobinco’s unwavering commitment to integrity and excellence.
Dr. Tobbin’s vindication is not just a personal triumph but a significant moment for his family, his company, and the broader business community in Ghana.
