Three suspects arrested for illegal possession of firearms

The Ghana Police Administration has arrested three suspects over illegal possession of firearms.

According to the Police, a two targeted intelligence-led operations conducted at Tema Community 25 and Dansoman on February 21, 2022, led to the retrieval of some weapons and ammunition.

In a statement, it explained that the operation at Tema Community 25 led to the arrest of suspect Abdul Razak, aged 46 years, for possessing a firearm without lawful authority.

It said a search conducted on him at his hideout led to the retrieval of an AK47 assault rifle, 90 rounds of live AK47 ammunition, 4 rounds of 17mm ammunition, a machete and a rubber pistol.

The Police said suspects Hamza Yakubu and Mubarak Yakubu were also arrested at Dansoman.

It noted that a search conducted on them led to the retrieval of one pump action gun and a pistol.

The Police noted that all three suspects have since been put before the court.

“We shall continue to conduct targeted intelligence-led operations to clamp down on criminals and also ensure illegal weapons are retrieved from the society,” it said.

Meanwhile, the Police urged people with information on criminal elements within their communities to report to them

The Municipal Chief Executive of Prestea Huni Valley, Dr Isaac Dasmani has denied allegations that those in charge of sharing relief items including food and water are doing it according to partisan politics.

According to him, there is no such thing as being reported, urging the public to disregard such news.

On Thursday, January 20th 2022, there was an explosion at Apiate, a town between Bogoso and Bawdie in the Western Region.

According to reports, a mining explosive vehicle moving from Tarkwa to Chirano mines collided with a motorcycle resulting in the explosion.

As a result, more than 10 persons were reported dead while more than 50 sustained injuries.

Several domestic and commercial properties were also destroyed.

The victims were given a temporal accommodation while they await the reconstruction of the affected buildings.

However, there have been reports by some residents that those distributing the food were doing partisan politics with the distribution.
