Upper East: 800,000 farmers to benefit from PFJ

800,000 farmers in the Upper East Region have been targeted to benefit from government’s flagship agriculture programme, Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) this year, the Regional Director of Agriculture, Francis Ennor, has revealed.

Mr. Ennor said the figure is an increase from 75,000 beneficiary farmers enrolled last year.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines at the 3rd Women in Food and Agriculture Leadership Training Forum and the Gold in the Soil Awards in Bolgatanga, Mr. Ennor noted that the increase was in line with efforts by the  government to enroll more farmers into the program.

He told pressmen that all was set for the implementation of the programme in the Region, adding that fertilizer dealers under the programme have been given clearance to bring the fertilizers to their various locations for easy accessibility by farmers.

The Director noted that there was a little upward adjustment in the prices of the fertilizer.

He said a bag of NPK which sold for Ghc45 last year will go for Ghc48 this year.

Also, a bag of Urea which was sold at Ghc40, will be sold for Ghc45 thus year.
