Yaw Boateng Gyan, a former National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has described the acts of violence that erupted at the National Youth and Women’s Congress as embarrassing.
The NDC held its National Youth and Women’s Congress at Cape Coast in the Central Region on Saturday December 10, 2022.
While the election was being held at the Congress, two rival groups clashed violently, throwing stones, blocks, sticks, clubs, and chairs, among other things, injuring three people and destroying property.
The police are currently on a manhunt for over sixteen people following violent disturbances during the congress.
Dr. Hanna Louisa Bissiw and George Opare Addo retained their positions as the National Women’s Organiser and National Youth Organiser respectively of the party.
Dr. Bissiw polled 433 votes to beat her closest contender, Margaret Ansei who obtained 362 votes of the total valid ballot cast.
The Police has since declared 16 people wanted in connection with the violence.

“The intervention of the Police brought the situation under control for the processes to continue to the end without any further incidents,” a statement from the Police said.
Reacting to the development on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with host Kaakyire Ofori Ayim, Yaw Boateng Gyan noted that the incident undermines the unity and togetherness that the party stands for.
Yaw Boateng Gyan, who has been a member of the NDC since its inception, said the party was built on love.
“What is happening is quite embarrassing.” Some of us have been there since Rawlings formed his party, and what we see now is totally different. The NDC was built on unity and togetherness, which helped in the day-to-day activities of the Party. Some leaders were even selected to serve without an election, all because of the love we had for each other,” Yaw Boateng Gyan told Kaakyire Ofori Ayim.
