Vivo Energy launches Fit2Drive wellness campaign

Vivo Energy Ghana (Shell licensee) has called on commercial drivers in Ghana to make periodic check-ups a part of their routine.

It is an undisputed fact that commercial drivers play a crucial role in the economy tirelessly navigating our roads to ensure passengers get to their destinations on time. With respect to the key role commercial drivers’ play, their health is a major concern. 

As part of measures to ensure healthy drivers on the road, Vivo Energy Ghana (Shell licensee) launched Fit2Drive wellness campaign, a campaign aimed at promoting and enhancing the physical and mental wellbeing.

The programme, which also seeks to ensure that drivers maintain optimal health and safety standards while on the road, was launched today November 2, at the Neoplan station the Kwame Nkrumah circle in Accra.  

Speaking at the launch, the HSSEQ Manager for Vivo Energy Ghana, Joseph Kankam, who spoke on behalf of the Managing Director for Vivo Ghana, Mr Kader Maiga, said the company believes that investing in the wellness of commercial drivers is fundamental in promoting road safety.

The Fit2Drive wellness campaign, according to Joseph Kankam is a comprehensive wellness programme that includes health screening, fitness training and educational seminars among others.

Joseph Kankam revealed that through the Fit2Drive campaign, Vivo Energy Ghana aims to reduce the risks associated with fatigue, stress and other health related factors that could compromise the safety of Ghana’s roads.

“Beyond the screening, advocacy and education, the company as part of the Fit2Drive wellness programme will liaise with the transport unions to organise fitness sessions for drivers at selected bus terminals. These sessions will help enhance drivers physical and mental well-being reducing the risks of accidents caused by fatigue or health related,” he added.

 After the launch, Vivo Energy Ghana (Shell licensee) also took drivers at the Neoplan Station through series of medical screening.

In attendance at the launch were representatives from the Ghana Health Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service and Transport Unions, Red Cross Society.
