Walewale: NPP parliamentary primary re-run set for Sept. 8

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has set Sunday, September 8, 2024 as the date for the re-run of the Walewale parliamentary primary.

The re-run follows the Tamale High Court’s annulment of the first primary on September 2, 2024.

Special Advisor to Vice President Bawumia, Dr. Mahama Tia Kabiru, won the first primary by 345 votes, while the incumbent MP, Hajia Lariba Zuweratu, secured 338 votes.

However, Hajia Zuweratu secured an injunction on the election outcome, citing some electoral irregularities.

Shortly after the court ruling, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the Party’s General Secretary, signed a statement announcing that nominations will be open from September 2 to September 5, 2024.

Aspiring candidates are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of GHC 3,000 and a filing fee of GHC 35,000.

According to him, the NPP has also established an Election Committee, chaired by Alhaji Haruna Mohammed, to oversee the election rerun.
