Water rationing : NGO accuses GWCL of sleeping on the job

An NGO, Friends of Rivers and Water  Bodies haS accused the management of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) of not putting measures in place to curb shortage of water hence the frequent rationing of water.

The Ghana Water Company Limited announced the rationing of water in Accra, Tema and parts of the Western region.

According to GWCL, the rationing of water will continue until the rainy season.

Speaking to Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, Executive Director for the Friends of Rivers and Water bodies, Nana Dwomoh Sarpong explained that GWCL haS done a little or nothing with respect to the conservation of water bodies and rivers in Ghana.

According to him, water is the raw material for GWCL and everything water should be their topmost priority.

However, the Corporate Affairs Director for GWCL also in an interview with Ekourba Gyasi, Stanley Martey, attributed the water shortage to the indiscriminate felling of trees along water banks and illegal mining (galamsey).

He urged the general public to help in the fight against galamsey in order save Ghana’s water bodies.
