22 separatists believed to be part of the Homeland Study Group Foundation (HSGF) have been discharged by an Accra Circuit Court.
The team is believed to be part of the of Secessionist group in the Volta Region who blocked major entry points into the Region as part of measures to push the government to give them their sovereignty.
The group particularly blocked roads in Sogakope and Mepe, disrupting the activities of residents and motorists who ply that route.
The group also attacked a police station and made away with weapons from their armoury.
The members of the group were received at the Airforce base in Accra for onward transport to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters of the Ghana Police.
Some of the exhibits picked up from them were flags which had inscriptions of the separatist group, Homeland Study Group Foundation (HSGF) on them.
The 22 were charged with conspiracy, treason felony, among others, for being part of the Western Togoland Organisation and other groups that had sought to form Western Togoland as a separate country.
An Accra circuit court, presided over by Ms Rosemond Baah, discharged after the prosecution presented a new charge sheet that did not have the names of the 22 people was presented to the court. The new list contained names of just 29 persons.
The 29 accused persons facing trial are Nene Kwaku Agblorm ll, Ernest Kpevu, Devine Seddoh, Bright Klutsey, Selasi Gbadago, Gilbert Nyadzino, Benjamin Gabadago, Felix Sosa, Lawrence Nyadzinor, Excel Liberty Aheto Luegbesika, Divine Nyadzinor, Godwin Awudza, William Amenor, Agbemenya Dotse, Louise Nyadzinor, Mawulolo Ahorble, and Fiave Joeffery.
George Akweti, Noah Ahiatorgah, Samuel Gbolomo, Raphael Tettevi, James Nanewortor, Abednego Dzreke Mawuena, Emmanuel Hayford Afedo, Isaac Kwesi Afeku, Richard Adria, Prosper Avumenyi, John Korbla Gbedena and Stephen Asime.
The 29 have been charged with conspiracy to commit crime, participating in the campaign of a prohibited organisation, treason felony and causing unlawful damage and rioting with weapons.
