Women Must Support Each Other More in Music – Maya Blu

Recording artist Maya Blu has called for stronger collaboration and communication among women in the music industry, saying the world stands to gain when women support and empower each other.

Speaking on Bullet TV’s special International Women’s Day programme hosted by Kareen Dodoo Antwi, Maya Blu observed that there are not many collaborations among female musicians, a situation she believes needs to change.

According to her, the music industry currently sees very few joint projects between women, despite the presence of many talented female artists.

“I actually think that in the music industry there aren’t a lot of collaborations going on between women, and I’m still trying to find out why,” – she said.

Maya Blu noted that while she has personally worked with some “amazing female artists,” the overall level of collaboration among women in the industry remains limited.

She said greater unity among women would not only strengthen the industry but also serve as an example of what the world gains when women are given more opportunities and space to thrive.

The singer further reflected on challenges that sometimes exist among women themselves, pointing to issues such as jealousy. However, she urged women to transform such feelings into positive motivation and mutual learning.

“If someone looks better than you or is doing something admirable, instead of feeling jealous, take it positively. Ask questions, learn from them and grow,” she explained.

Her comments formed part of a broader discussion on the theme “What the World Gains When Women Are Given More.”
