W\R: Wrong medication leaves 7-yr-old boy with “damaged” skin, speech difficulty

A seven-year-old boy in Sefwi Akontombra is reported to be bearing severe consequences after wrong medications were administered to him at the Sefwi Akontombra Hospital in the Western Region.

According to reports gathered, the boy fell ill and was taken to the Sefwi Akontombra Hospital where a drug was administered to him after being diagnosed of malaria.

The wrong medication administered to the child, according to reports, has led to severe skin problems and has made him bedridden in the interim.

In an interview with his mother, she disclosed that not only is the boy suffering from the skin “rot”, the child is experiencing difficulty in speaking and bed-ridden.

“My child fell ill and so we went to the Sefwi Akontombra Hospital and they said that my son is suffering from malaria and so they gave my son some medication; a day after, a strange rashes emerged on his face and it spread to all parts of his body”. She said.

“Initially I thought it was just a normal skin disease but I realized after some time that the rashes on his body was very unusual skin infection and was fast spreading. It became as though someone had splashed hot water on his body…it even spread unto his tongue which initially could not make him eat at all.” She said.

The victim’s mother, however, disclosed that her son has been admitted at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and is currently receiving medical attention following errors committed by the doctor at the Sefwi Akontombra Hospital.
