Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly warns chiefs over illegal sale of lands

The Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly has warned that it will deal with chiefs and traditional leaders who are behind the sale of farmlands in the area in the wake of growing demands by investors, which has led to a sudden rise in land disputes.

The warning follows a recent issue in Somanya which saw some families being displaced over the sale of their farmlands.

Narm, a farming community at Somanya in the Yilo Krobo Municipality has been making the headlines following recent clashes involving the military, police, and civilians over some parcels of farmlands.

The acres of farmlands belonging to the Kwadjo Wayo Kuda Family are alleged to have been resold to an investor by the chief of the area without any recourse. This led to some disturbances in the area, prompting the Municipal Security Council to involve the military.

Families whose properties and farms are sited on the disputed lands say, they are living in fear due to the recent firing of guns by unknown persons every evening.

They accused the chief of the area of importing thugs into the community to terrorize them in a bid to have his way to resell their farmlands.

However, the accused chief of the area, Asafoatse Tetteh Kwesi Dum VI, denied orchestrating the recent confusion in the area.  He said the matter has since been put before the Traditional Council for an expedited resolution

Meanwhile, the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly has in a statement warned that the Municipal Security Council will start prosecuting chiefs and traditional leaders who are taking advantage of the high demands for lands in the municipality to engage in the double sale of people’s farm and family lands.

Municipal Chief Executive, Eric Tetteh who denied any involvement in the matter said, the assembly will not sit aloof for the community to be turned into a haven for land thugs.
