You won’t succeed as a gospel musician if you’re motivated by money -Esther Smith

Gospel legend, Esther Smith, has said that one cannot succeed as a gospel musician if they just want to make money.

According to her, one must have a clear motive to do gospel music and not see it as a business venture.

She said this in an interview with B Ice on Agyenkwa 101.9 FM, a sister Station to Atinka FM and Atinka TV and Ahoto FM.

When asked what the gospel musicians of her era did to their music to keep people listening to it over time, she responded that the motive behind a gospel song, regardless of when it was composed, is what keeps people coming back to it, followed by the words, inspiration, or lyrics.

Esther Smith recalled that sometime ago, a male nurse in a conversation told her that he had quit nursing and was going to do music, saying that gospel music had become a lucrative business.

Although she acknowledged that doing gospel music is a job, she said it would be difficult to succeed with such a mindset.

“Gospel music is spiritual. If you lack a spiritual gift, music, being a spirit, will not function. “The Bible says you’ll work in vain without God’s help,” she said.

She reiterated, “There are people who are blessed by God; they possess these qualities from birth, and comparing yourself to them will not be beneficial.” Some individuals have also ventured into the world and attended school to gain knowledge, while others, influenced by your lifestyle, fame, and public acceptance, perceive it as effortless and aspire to emulate you. There are attacks in it; there are a lot of things in it. As you are singing to send something away, that thing will be happening to you. Every man of God who preaches experiences the same thing they preach about.”

Esther Smith also recalled that sometime ago she wa having bad dreams and she called a Man of God to narrate it to him and to seek for help and the man of God told her that someone called with a similar issue and he advised the person to pray with Esther Smith’s song so she should cut the line since she is the owner of the song.

Meanwhile, she said she needed the Man of God to pray with her.

“The work we are doing is about attacks, so you have to learn the word of God. There are some of the songs I get before knowing it is in the Bible, see the quotation and write it on so if you do not know the word of God, and you do not pray and you do your things any how, you will not get it easily,” she stated.

The Gospel Star also recalled that sometime ago there were rumours that she was using certain spiritual powers to back her music, saying the only source of her music was God and nothing else.

“I never cut my tongue to do my music, if God is doing his work, what is voodoo? Which kind of voodoo can compete with God?” she quizzed.

She said although awards, money and fame are good, people should have a better motive to do gospel music and not just see it as a business venture.

She also admitted that people nowadays mostly think about the business aspect of gospel music because they might have experienced certain attitudes of some pastors.

She also noted that the Esther Smith Concert will come off on August 25th at Bantama Pentecost in the Ashanti Region, encouraging all to come and worship the Lord.
