Youth urged to take interest in natural resource governance and demand accountability from govt

The Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) has held a campus rally, Active Citizenship in Resource Governance dubbed, “Strengthening Accountability for Good Resource Governance through Active Citizenship.”

As part of efforts towards creating an Africa where the resources and revenues accrued from the extractive and energy sectors are utilized effectively for economic growth and inclusive sustainable development, the Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP), a not-for-profit organization has organized a Campus rally on natural resource governance and petroleum revenue management.

The engagement with students aimed at enhancing students’ awareness on resource revenue management in Ghana and empower them to actively monitor the government’s utilization of natural resources revenues.

The event, organized by Policy Think Tank, ACEP, was in collaboration with the Wisconsin International University College, Ghana, where the event was held.

Speaking at the event, Policy Analyst at ACEP, Rosemond Sefa said the Centre was embarking on a youth outreach programme to develop the capacity of young Ghanaians on the effective strategies to monitor the utilization of petroleum revenues.

“This is to build and mobilize an informed Ghanaian youth to strengthen the demand for transparency and accountability mechanisms and promote good resource governance for optimal gains from Ghana’s petroleum resources.

The President of Wisconsin International University, Prof Obeng Mireku urged the government to use revenues made from natural resources to develop the country and as well invest some for the future generation.

For his part, the Policy Lead, Petroleum and Conventional Energy, ACEP, kodzo Yaotse urged the youth to take interest in natural resource governance and demand accountability from the government.
