GJA  inaugurates  statutory  and other committees

The Ghana Jpurnalists Association (GJA)  has inaugurated staturory and other committees

The committees, which are established and constituted pursuant to articles 30 and 31 of the GJA Constitution 2004, are chaired by a member of the National Executive.

They include the Membership Vetting Committee, Professional Development Committee, Social Affairs Committee, International Relations Committee, and Finance and Resource Mobilisation Committee.

Also constituted is the Ethics & Disciplinary Council enshrined under Article 42 of the GJA Constitution.

The GJA  has also  established the Social Media Committee and the Project Committee to enhance its activities.

In his opening remarks, GJA President, Albert Dwumfour  said It is important to emphasize the importance of these Committees to the smooth running of our dear Association.

“It is a constitutional obligation and also a crucial step towards repositioning GJA as the umbrella association for all media practitioners with the responsibility to promote the highest professional standards.

“We are not oblivious of the task ahead of the media as the country works towards economic recovery amid political activities ahead of the 2024 General Election,” he said

According to him, media practitioners are going to play pivotal roles in these and other activities, which reason the Association is strengthening its structures.

“We believe that these Committees, which are largely the structures or institutions of the Association, if well built, would place GJA in that enviable position again, admired by all, locally and internationally.

“It is for this reason that the members were carefully selected and I have no doubt that you would carry out the assignment in the interest of the Association and the country,”  he said.

Mr Dwumfour said as  individual appointees,  members of the committees have an opportunity to work to improve the fortunes of the GJA adding  “You equally have an opportunity to sit on the fence to watch the GJA struggle, but doing the latter remains more crucial than the former.”

The GJA President use the opportunity to praise the Ghana Police and the courts for their prompt response to the attack on  Dagbon Radio presenter  in Tamale.  “To ensure complete justice, we are also pursuing the civil angle. Therefore, we have instructed our legal team in Tamale to initiate the required civil proceedings,” he disclosed
