Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has pledged that land registration for chiefs under his presidency will be free.
This, he said will pave way and encourage chiefs to register all lands in the Country.
He said this when he met the Clergymen in the Greater Accra Region to begin his two-day campaign tour in the Region.
Dr. Bawumia said he believes this initiative when implemented will put an end to land disputes which have been a problem for the country.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized the need to modernise the land tenure system, citing examples from advanced countries where land ownership information is easily accessible online.
“Land in many countries, in the advanced world, if you want to know who owns the land, you can find it on your mobile phone, you don’t have to visit the land registry. So, we are going to move to marking and digitalizing our land. So many land disputes come up because nobody really knows who owns the land.”
