The Executive Director, National Council of Private Schools, Obenfo Enoch Kwasi Gyetuah, says teaching and learning have not commenced for all students who just entered senior high school.

This is contradictory to what the Ghana Education Service (GES) stated earlier.

According to the 2023 academic calendar, JHS students entering senior high schools for the first time were expected to be in their various classrooms today, February 27, 2023, as serious teaching and learning was also expected to begin today.

Although they were expected to be in the classroom for teaching and learning to commence, school re-opened on 20th February, 2023.

The purpose of the period was to allow parents to prepare their children for school and to provide those who were still struggling with their schools with the opportunity to do self-placement.

Speaking on Atinka TV‘s morning show, Ghana Nie with Abena Dufie, Obenfo Enoch Kwasi Gyetuah, noticed that some parents were still at solution centers trying to correct the placement of their ward’s school.

He said such timelines, when given, put people in panic, questioning what becomes of the child whose parents are still looking for schools for them.

Obenfo Enoch Kwasi Gyetuah said at most of the schools, they usually receive the students in batches, adding that some schools allow science students to go, and then the next day, those who do business will follow suit.

“As of now, not all the students have completed their school placement; when you go to the resolution centers, some parents are there, so you cannot tell them to bring any issues, so it is a process.” “Even if teaching and learning start, it cannot be the entirety of the senior high school,” he said.
