Mahama doing cheap politics for commending Nigeria’s INEC-NPP

A Communications Team Member, Nana Appiah Owusu, has slammed the Former President, John Dramani Mahama over his comments that Nigeria’s election is more transparent as compared to that of Ghana.

According to him, Mahama is just playing cheap politics with his comments in relation to Nigeria’s election.

The former President John Dramani Mahama had some concerns about how elections were run in Ghana compared to Nigeria.

Mr. Mahama, who is on a pre-election tour to Nigeria under the auspices of the West African Elders Forum (WAEF), was impressed with the faith that all the candidates and parties have in the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) of Nigeria.

He indicated that every political party in Nigeria has testified that INEC has acknowledged and taken their concerns into account.

He lamented that the same could not be attributed to Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC). According to him, the EC used to be among the top election administration organizations in the world.

“I can’t say the same for my Electoral Commission (EC), which was once among the top election administration organizations in the world,” he said.

Speaking on ATinka TV‘s morning show, Ghana Nie with Ama Gyenfa Ofofsu Darkwa, Nana Appiah Owusu said “I am very disappointed in Former President John Mahama if he says that. The ballot papers that Nigerians are using, they do not have the photos of the Candidates on them. It is their symbols that are on it and even with that one, at some point, some are removed.”

“To identify a political party and a candidate very well, it is the picture of the candidate and the symbol of the party, and so as a Former President whom we used this process to elect, and you know how relevant it is, you have gone somewhere and they do not have it, you prefer that one over the one with photos, which is clear such that when someone goes close to the ballot paper, they see your name and party, and you do not want,” he continued.

Nana Appiah Owusu again said, “It is very unfortunate for him to make that statement because with the good things we have, he does not see them because he is not president now.” He doesn’t see the goodness in what the EC is doing in Ghana because he is not in power, and I must say that, that is cheap politics.

He encouraged the citizens to love what they have and project the country in a very positive light.
