40-Year-old Farmer to contest as an independent Candidate at Tema East

A 40-year-old farmer Mohammed Iliasu, popularly known as Pele, has announced his intentions to contest the Tema East Parliamentary seat as an independent candidate.
The former professional footballer, who declared his intentions at his office in Tema, noted that, it was time for the youth to take charge of managing the affairs of the constituency, stressing that both the NDC and NPP have done nothing extraordinary for the development of the youth.
Mohammed Iliasu, who has been credited for a number of youth development programmes and social intervention initiatives in the Tema Newtown community in the Tema East Consituency, is campaigning on job and wealth creation for the youth.
“I’m not venturing into politics to enrich myself, but for the betterment of the youth, who have always been my priority,” he asserted.
According to him, even before accepting to contest the parliamentary seat, he had undertaken several social intervention programmes to help the youth and the elderly.
“My Mohammed Pele Foundation, has given schorlaship to over 50 school dropouts, whereas majority of the youth in my community have been employed directly and indirectly under my chains of businesses,” he said.
He again said over 50 traders have benefited from his monthly soft loans for training activities, likewise that of the fisherfolks in the community.
Mohammed Iliasu, who will be contesting the Tema East seat, with the NPP’s Titus Glover who happens to be the incumbent, and the NDC’s former Tema Mayor, Ashai Odmatten, is confident of emerging victorious come Decemeber 7, 2020.
“I stand tall among my two contenders, becuase the youth who constitute 80% of votes in the constituency, have lost hope in the two and sees me as the only credible person to fight for their development,” he added.
