A 6-year-old boy has drowned in a manhole at Bonsu Nkwanta in the Juaboso District of the Western North Region.

The incident happened on Wednesday around 4 p.m in the evening.

According to an eyewitness account, the deceased, whose name is yet to be known was playing with his friends of the same age around the pit in the evening.

Unfortunately the ball they were playing fell into the pit which compelled the 6-year-old boy to jump into the pit to get ball back.

Reports say the 6-year-old was unable to climb to the top of the pit again, hence drowning.

His colleagues upon realising that the boy was battling to survive shouted for help but before people could go to his rescue, the boy had already passed out.

The body of deceased has been conveyed and deposited at Juaboso Gov’t Hospital for autopsy and preservation.

Investigations are also ongoing by Juaboso Police on the actual cause of the incident.

Giving a detailed report on Atinka TV’s morning show, Ghana Nie, hosted by Ekourba Gyasi Simpremu, our AMV reporter based in the Volta Region, Christopher Pappoe who went to the scene, said the residents explained that the motor rider was seen the whole day riding around with the boy until at a certain point they heard the boy screaming for help behind a dam.

He said when the residents got to the river, there was no canoe to convey them to the bank and so before they had a speed boat and got there, the okada rider had already cut the boy’s head and fled with the head.

He was of the belief that the boy would have been saved if the residents had a canoe in time.

Our Reporter said the residents traced the blood of the boy to the house of the Prophetess and when they searched the house, they saw that the Rider had left the boy’s head at the back of the house and gone to hide at an uncompleted building of the prophetess.

When he was caught, the Okada Rider said, “The Prophetess sent him to cut someone’s head for her and that she will give him money,” Christopher Pappoe reported.

But the Prophetess who is at the Shelter Pentecostal Church Prayer Centre at Aflorkope said she did not send him.
