8 Ghanaian musicians who got BET award nominations.

BET started recognizing African music in 2010, and from that time till now they have given awards to African artists in a special category known as the ‘Best International Act’ award.

Seven hardworking Ghanaian musicians have so far received nominations at the prestigious BET Awards.

These seven musicians have made Ghanaian music extremely prominent on the African continent, and from 2010 to the present, seven of our music stars have been recognized alongside Nigerian and South African (SA)

 Camidoh,  who has landed his first ever BET awards nomination this year  becomes the 8th Ghanaian musician  to be on the BET list since 2010

Currently, two Ghanaians have won BET Awards – Sarkodie and Stonebwoy.

Now let’s take a look at all the musicians who have represented Ghana at the BETs in the ‘Best International Act’ category:

1.            Kojo Antwi – 2010

He was the first Ghanaian act to be nominated at the BETs newly introduced category for international artistes in 2010 but didn’t win and the award was given to Dizzee Rascal from United Kingdom (UK.

2. D Black – 2011

The 2nd Ghanaian act to rep at the BETs. Most people have forgotten that D Black was the first hip hop act from Ghana to go to the BETs in 2011. The award was given to 2Baba and D’banj from Nigeria that year.

3. Sarkodie – 2012

He represented Ghana in 2012 and won the first ever BET Award. 7 years later, in 2019, he won another BET Award in a different award scheme – BET Hip Hop Awards as the Best International Flow.

4. R2Bees – 2013

They were very famous in Ghana between 2012 – 2013 after releasing hit songs like: Odo, Life, Bayla Trap and Slow Down.

In 2013, they won Artiste of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards and got nominated at the BET Awards. That year, BET gave the award to Ice Prince Zamani of Nigeria.

5. Stonebwoy – 2015

He won his first Award in 2015 after being nominated, becoming Ghana’s second act to win such an award. He was phenomenal that year and many people were not surprised he got honoured at the BETs.

6. MzVee – 2016

She became Ghana’s first female act to be nominated at the BET Awards in 2016. That year, the award went to Black Coffee of South Africa.

7. Kwesi Arthur – 2018

In 2018, Kwesi Arthur got nominated in a new category – Best New International Act. Many Ghanaians wanted him to win, however, the award went to SJava of South Africa.
