Election 2024: IGP Dampare warns against lawlessness

Inspector General of Police (IGP) and head of the Election Security Task Force, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has made a strong appeal to Ghanaians to participate in the upcoming General elections freely and peacefully.

During his visit to the Electoral Commission’s headquarters today, Dr. Dampare emphasized the importance of ensuring a smooth and orderly process throughout the exhibition period.

Addressing a gathering that included the heads of various security agencies, the IGP highlighted the critical role of the public in maintaining peace and stability.

“We urge all Ghanaians to come out and verify their details in the voters register without fear or hesitation,” – he stated. “This exercise is crucial for the integrity of our electoral process, and your participation is vital.”

Dr. Dampare also issued a stern warning to political parties and their supporters, cautioning them against taking the law into their own hands.

He stressed that any issues or disputes that arise during the exercise should be resolved through the proper channels. “We do not want to see anyone attempting to bypass the law or create disturbances,” he warned.

“Let us all commit to respecting the rules and ensuring that the exhibition process proceeds without incident.”

The IGP reassured the public that the security services are fully prepared to manage any challenges that may arise. Rapid response teams will be deployed across all 38,620 polling stations nationwide to address any issues swiftly and effectively.

Dr. Dampare thanked the public for their cooperation so far and called on all stakeholders, including the media, to continue playing their part in ensuring a peaceful and successful electoral process. “This is a collective effort, and together, we can make this exercise a success,” – he said.
