The Ghana Police Service has disclosed that two more persons have been arrested in connection with the tragic death of Asante Kotoko fan, Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Pooley.
This brings the total number of suspects in police custody to five, including a female.
The Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akufo Dampare, made this revelation during a crucial meeting with the Police Management Board, the Ghana Football Association, and other key stakeholders to discuss security measures in the country’s sports industry.
Tensions ran high during and after the Premier League clash between Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman at the Nsoatre Park on Sunday, leading to violent scenes.
The most tragic incident of the night was the fatal stabbing of a devoted Asante Kotoko supporter, Francis Yaw Frimpong, also known as Pooley.
President of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), Ansah, emphasized the need for stricter security measures at football venues.
The Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association, Fred Acheampong, also addressed the media, calling for collective action to curb fan violence.
With investigations still ongoing, the Ghana Police Service has assured the public of its commitment to ensuring justice for the late Pooley while implementing measures to prevent future incidents of violence in Ghanaian football.
