In a major shakeup of the Ghana Police Service, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has announced sweeping changes to the Police Management Board.

The move, aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and strengthening law enforcement, takes immediate effect.

Leading the reconstituted leadership team is COP/Mrs. Maame Yaa Tiwa Addo-Danquah, who now takes over as Director-General of Research and Planning (R&P). A highly experienced officer, COP Addo-Danquah has previously served in key roles, including as the first female Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). Her extensive background in law enforcement strategy positions her to drive data-driven policing and policy reforms.

Also making a significant move is DCOP/Mr. Frank Abrokwah, who has been appointed Deputy Director-General of the CID. His new role will see him support efforts to enhance criminal investigations across the country, with a focus on intelligence-led policing.

Other key appointments include COP/Dr. Ernest Kwabena Owusu as Director-General of Services (SVCS), COP/Mr. Paul Manly Awini heading the Service Workshop in Accra, and COP/Mr. Daniel Kwame Afriyie as Director-General of PSO. The reshuffle also sees DCOP/Ms. Lydia Yaako Donkor taking over as Director-General of the CID, reinforcing the department’s leadership with her expertise in criminal investigations.

In addition to changes at the national level, regional commands have also been reshuffled. DCOP/Mr. Duuti Tuaruka assumes command of the Ashanti Region, DCOP/Mr. Francis Kwame Tsidi takes charge of the Western Region, and DCOP/Mr. Abraham Acquaye has been appointed as the Central Regional Commander.

The IGP’s restructuring is seen as part of broader efforts to improve security, crime prevention, and police professionalism. The changes come at a time when the Ghana Police Service is under increasing public scrutiny to maintain law and order.

The IGP wished all officers well in their new roles, expressing confidence that the reshuffle will enhance the effectiveness of the service in ensuring the safety and security of Ghanaians.
