A fire outbreak has destroyed part of the girls’ dormitory at Tolon Senior High School in the Northern Region, causing extensive damage to school property and students’ personal belongings.
The affected dormitory block, which has ten rooms across both wings, recorded the complete destruction of two rooms. The fire was advancing toward a third room before personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) arrived and brought the situation under control.
Items destroyed in the blaze include beds, chop boxes, mosquito nets, students’ books, and other personal effects. Several students have been displaced as a result, with school authorities currently assessing the extent of the damage and putting temporary accommodation measures in place.
Speaking on the incident, the Northern Regional Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, ADOII, said the intensity of the fire required reinforcement from the Tamale Metro Fire Station. He explained that the combined efforts of both teams prevented the fire from spreading to the entire dormitory block.
No casualties were recorded. However, some students who experienced panic and distress during the incident were rushed to a hospital for medical attention. Officials clarified that their condition was due to shock and fear, and not as a result of injuries from falls or structural collapse.
