Security analyst and Executive Director of the Jatikay Centre for Human Security and Peace Building, Adib Saani, has described the alleged security services recruitment scandal as a serious national security threat.
Speaking on Bullet TV’s Morning Target, hosted by Akua Oteng Amponsah and Prince Kwame Kudogah, Mr. Saani expressed shock and concern over the development, warning that allowing individuals with criminal tendencies to enter the security services could have serious consequences for the country.
“This is a serious national security threat, which in my opinion, I think the Interior Minister could have handled better.”
Mr. Saani further cautioned that recruits with integrity issues and criminal mindsets could potentially use their knowledge of the security system to aid criminals.
“If they have integrity issues and such criminal mindset and they are able to go through, it becomes a big problem… they might become consultants to criminals, because they know the ins and out.”
He also criticised the response of the Interior Minister, arguing that the matter should not be downplayed given its potential implications for national security.
“I’m also very surprised by the way the Interior Minister talked about it, making it look like it’s nothing, but it’s a big deal.”
Mr. Saani called for stronger accountability and thorough vetting in the recruitment process to prevent individuals who may pose security risks from gaining entry into Ghana’s security services.
