Learn to vote on conviction, not party lines – Ablakwa to colleague MPs

The Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu in the Volta Region, Samuel Akudzeto Ablakwa has called on his colleague MPs to learn from other Parliamentarians in other countries and vote based on conviction and not along political party lines.

The Legislator who was speaking at a public forum organized by Caucus for Democratic Governance, Ghana (CDG-GH) on the $30 billion state capture in Ghana’s oil industry said this is necessary since it will ensure that MPs go through contracts thoroughly before casting a vote.

The former Deputy Minister of Education also urged constituents to start questioning their MPs on why they voted in particular manner on issues bothering on the interests of the nation.

Chairman of the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC), Dr Steve Manteaw, told Atinka FM on the sidelines of the forum that he was not happy about how fast government signed the renegotiation contract between Ghana petroleum company and AGM Petroleum company.

He added that, the old Ghana–AGM contract would have given the country some good revenue.

Dr Manteaw said the mandate given to the members of parliament to take decisions on behalf of the citizenry and negotiate contracts ought to be exercised very well.
