A Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma North Constituency, Mr Justice Joe Appiah has called on President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo to arrest all those who have been fingered in the missing excavators issue, including the Minister for Environment Science Technology and Innovation, Prof. Frimpong Boateng.
He noted that the President was doing well with the fight against galamsey until the people he appointed to ensure its success started messing everything up.
Speaking on the Atinka TV’s Morning Agenda, a segment on Ghana Nie, hosted by Bismark Brown, Joe Appiah said, “The President has done well in the fight against galamsey but its the people he designated to ensure the fight is successful rather has become the problem. Looking at his concept, he did very well, even some of the rivers were looking better until we heard about the missing excavators. Whoever is responsible must bow their heads in shame. We cannot sit down for things like these to go on.”
“Those people who are involved in the excavators issue should be fired. If Frimpong Boateng did not do his work well he should be sacked. I have been impressed by his work but not quite in recent times . If the allegations are true, I do not think it is right. Whoever is disgracing you, as strictly as possible bring them out,” Mr Joe Appiah added.
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kpone Katamanso, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, also challenged the President to expose and dismiss all those who are involved in the missing excavators saga.
He was of the view Akufo Addo will be blamed if any problem arises in the country and therefore should not allow others to disgrace him, especially with the fight against galamsey.
“I do not think anyone will love someone more than himself. If there should be a problem or any blame, it will be on Nana Addo so this is where he has to act. If someone does something wrong, swiftly without delay, cut the person off, or deal with the person irrespective of who the person is; Because at the end of the day, it is about you as an individual, your image, your respect and everything counts,” he said.
Also speaking on Ghana Nie, Afotey Agbo stated that Akufo Addo’s silence over names that are popping up on the missing excavators, as well as allegations against Prof. Frimpong Boateng allowing his son to continue with galamsey raises a lot of questions about his integrity.
“If you don’t act, then it raises a lot of questions. If is it alleged that Frimpong Boateng has given a site for his son to do mining, let us investigate, so that at least if something is going on we know. People are expecting him to act and nothing is being done, and it looks as if one is interested in something,” he said.
