Ghanaian Rapper, Sarkodie, has asked the Communications Director for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, to take down a post he made about the EC.
Comparing the painful murder of George Floyd to the EC’s insistence on compiling a new voters’ register, Sammy Gyamfi posted a cartoon in which the EC boss Jean Mensah was kneeling on the neck of a voter just like it happened before Floyd’s death.
Floyd was choked to death by a Police Officer, while screaming for breath in the USA.
Sammy Gyamfi insinuated that the EC is seeking to disenfranchise millions of eligible voters through what he described as a “xenophobic” voter register.
“The potential victims of this grave injustice, are screaming for breathe. They are screaming for their inalienable right to vote. Nothing wrong with sharing a cartoon which draws a parallel between the painful xenophobic murder of George Floyd, and the evil attempt by the GH EC to disenfranchise millions of eligible voters through a xenophobic voter register.Injustice anywhere, is a threat to justice everywhere. This is a serious matter, not a joke”, he posted on Facebook.
The post did not go well with many Ghanaians including Rapper Sarkodie, who has asked Sammy Gyamfi to take down the post and retract the content.
“Naa my brother we all go wrong sometimes… I will believe your intention wasn’t to joke with these serious n very sensitive issues, but you still wrong just do what’s right…. retract n take it down”, Sarkodie said in a tweet.
