Apiatse disaster : Survivors hold thanksgiving service today

Survivors in the Appiatse disaster will take part in an interdenominational thanksgiving church service today  Sunday, January 30 at the Apiatse Relief Camp in Dumase in the Western Region.

This service comes barely two weeks after the deadly explosion in Appiatse.

Organized by the Appiatse Disaster Relief Committee in collaboration with the local council of churches, the thanksgiving service is aimed at offering thanks to God for how far He has brought survivors.

The service will start at 2:00pm today, Sunday January 30th 2022.

The theme for the service is from Isaiah 43:2: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”

The occasion will also be used to raise funds to support the camp. Over 13 persons perished in a huge explosion at Apiate, a town between Bogoso and Bawdie in the Western Region on Thursday 20th January 2022.

The explosion occurred when a motorcycle collided with a vehicle carrying explosives to a mining site on Thursday, 20 January 2022.

Apart from the deaths, the explosion destroyed several domestic and commercial properties. Some residents of the area who were unhurt had to run for their lives.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has donated GH¢100,000 as seed money for a fund created by government to support the survivors.
