Lamashegu: Don’t take laws into your own hands-Police to Youth

The Director of Public Affairs at the Ghana Police Service, ACP Akwesi Ofori, has urged the youth not to take the laws into their own hands even when the police does something they are not pleased with.

According him, the Police Administration under the supervision of the IGP will not watch Police Officers who fault in their line of duty go unpunished, therefore the youth should also not go on rampage when incidents like that of Tamale occurs.

His comments come following the violence that at Tamale over the weekend.

Six police Officers were interdicted over the weekend following a shooting incident at Lamashegu in Tamale.

Through the shooting, it was reported that one person died while others sustained various degrees of injuries.

According to eyewitnesses, the chaos started after a police patrol team allegedly shot a young man driving a white Toyota Camry with a DV number plate after he had refused to stop when the police stopped him.

He is said to have driven to the Chief for cover but was pursued there by the Police.

Speaking on Atinka TV’s morning show, Ghana Nie with Ekourba Gyasi Simpremu, ACP Akwesi Ofori said,”When infractions like these come on the side of the police, people should know that the IGP and the Police will not sit down and watch others trample on others’ freedom. When it happens like that, the police administration takes a decision to deal with it and so when something like that happens, people should have patience and not take the laws into their own hands and assault the police and destroy properties.”

Meanwhile, he assured that police officers who flout the laws of the country will certainly be punished.

For those who work well, ACP Akwesi Ofori said they will be appraised.

He also urged the youth of Lamashegu, Tamale to exercise patience, with the assurance that the police is investigating the matter and will ensure that justice is served.
