Abandoned CHPS Compound Leaves Nfensi Residents in Healthcare Crisis

Residents of Nfensi in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District are grappling with a worsening healthcare crisis following the abandonment of an 80 percent completed Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound.

The facility, which was intended to serve Nfensi and surrounding communities including Amadum, Adankwame, and Asakraka, has stalled despite nearing completion. The project was initiated under former Member of Parliament Benito Owusu Bio.

Residents say the delay has left them with no choice but to travel long distances to access basic medical care, a situation they describe as both costly and life-threatening.

According to community members who spoke to Atinka News, the absence of a functioning health facility has had severe consequences, particularly for pregnant women.

Some residents claim expectant mothers have lost their babies due to the lack of timely medical attention, while others point to the absence of healthcare personnel and basic infrastructure such as electricity as major setbacks.

“It’s a nightmare. We need this facility now,” a resident lamented.

The community is now calling on government authorities and the District Chief Executive to urgently complete the project and make it operational.

“Please, we need healthcare in Nfensi,” residents appealed.

The abandoned CHPS compound has become a stark symbol of the community’s struggle for accessible healthcare, with residents hoping for swift intervention to ease their plight.
