Aberkope: Neighbourhood Watch Committee inaugurated

A seven-member neighbourhood watch committee has been inaugurated at the forecourt of the Aberkope chief’s palace by the people of Aberkope near Dawhyenya in the Prampram District of the Greater Accra Region.

The Neighbourhood Watch Committee is to help in the prevention of crime and also to create security awareness within Dawhyenya and Prampram localities.

The Aberkope neighbourhood watch committee is an initiative of the community spearheaded by Mr. Andy Amanakpo, in consultation with the Prampram District Police Command.

The Assembly Member for the area, Mr Moses Nii-Pornotey Kutor expressed his gratitude to the police for their leadership role in the formation of the committee.

The District Commander, Supt/Mr. Kofi Ghampson spelt out the duties of the committee and admonished them not to take the law into their hands in the course of performing their duties.

In a message to the Committee, the Tema Regional Police Command, used the opportunity to advise new communities that are springing up in the Tema Region to take a cue from the Aberkope Community and form similar committees in their communities.

A leading Member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Member of Parliament (MP) for Adansi Asukwa, Mr KT Hammond has refuted claims by some Ghanaians that they ( NPP MPs) are against the LGBTQI+ Bill.

He observed that a section of the public were accusing the NPP MPs of being against the Bill due to their silence in the raging debate.

Eight members of Ghana’s Parliament have jointly submitted a private bill to push for the criminalization of LGBTQI+ activities in the country.

The LGBTQI+ Bill, which they term as a ‘Bill on the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values’, was presented to Speaker, Alban Bagbin on Tuesday, June 29, 2021.
