A Member of the NDC Communications Team, Mr Kojo Danquah, says the 28-year-old architect who allegedly murdered three persons at Abesim might be suffering from a mental disorder and must therefore be examined.
The 28-year-old architect, who is also a sports commentator and a footballer, Richard Appiah, was arrested for allegedly killing two teenagers, one other and keeping some body parts in his fridge.
He was arrested after the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Headquarters to provide technical support to the Bono Regional CID to Investigate the murder of three persons at Abesim in the Bono Region to its logical conclusion.
The suspect, Richard Appiah is suspected to have murdered two young men, 12 and 15 and a yet-to-be identified man whose bodies were found in his living quarters at Alaska near Abesim on Friday, August 20 2021.
The suspect was arrested by the Police in collaboration with members of the community.
Richard Appiah is currently in Police custody assisting the investigation.
Speaking on Atinka TV’s morning show, Ghana Nie with Ekourba Gyasi Simpremu, Mr Kojo Danquah said, “It is disheartening that a 28-year-old man, who is well educated will do such a thing. I was asking myself what could have accounted for what he did. Maybe he might be having a mental problem, and so we have to examine if his brains are functioning well.”
He continued , “Or maybe, there is money rituals and people are killing for money rituals. But what I want to ask is, if money rituals really exist? I doubt. The only money ritual is working hard.”
The NDC Communicator who was shocked by the news said the most surprising thing about the matter is that the father of the last person he killed is a friend of the murderer.
“You look at your friend’s face and kill his child. What at all will make you commit such a crime,” he quizzed.
Meanwhile, he noticed that such killings have become one to many, saying, “It is about time our communities started investigating strange people or new people who come into the communities to live there. Even when we suspect someone, we have to report the person to the police.”
Mr Kojo Danquah also observed that the police sometimes spare those who are handed over to them as criminals and so the motivation of going to report to the police is not there.
“That is why people beat and kill thieves when they get hold of them,”.
He urged the IGP to advise his men to safeguard persons who report issues and reward them in order to motivate others.
Mr Kojo Danquah also commended the IGP for going to Abesim to investigate the matter, urging him to ensure that all those who have a hand in the killings are also dealt with.
