The High Court in Accra has dismissed an application filed by Akua Afriyie Owusu, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, seeking a 10-day interim injunction against the Electoral Commission’s (EC) order to rerun elections in 19 polling stations within the constituency.
Justice Ali Baba Abature, presiding over the court, ruled that the ex-parte application was “unmeritorious.”
Despite arguments from Owusu’s lawyers, led by Director of Legal Affairs Garry Nimako Marfo, that the rerun would cause irreparable damage to their client, the court dismissed the application.
The injunction application aimed to restrain the EC and interested parties, including Awurabena Aubyn and the National Democratic Congress, from proceeding with the rerun.
However, the court’s decision has allowed the EC to move forward with its plans.
