Ada: Police knocked to death by Okada rider

A policeman was on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 tragically knocked down by a commercial Motorbike user, Okada operator, leading to his death at Nakomkorpe in the Ada West District of the Greater Accra.
 
Corporal Michael Ofosu, 36, stationed at Dawa met his unfortunate death during a patrol duty together with his other Divisional Patrol Team members.
 
The Ada West District Police Commander, DSP George Aboagye confirming the incident in a telephone conversation with Atinkaonline.com’s Edward Graham Sebbie said Corporal Michael Ofosu stopped the suspect, Daniel Ansah, 24 who was heading to Nakomkorpe from Sege but he refused.
 
Daniel Ansah rather began to wander with the motorbike from one side of the road to the other in a quest to defy the policeman’s order, as the deceased also prevented his passage.
 
DSP Aboagye said that Daniel Ansah eventually knocked down the uniformed man who sustained serious head injury and was rushed to the Ada District Hospital.
 
He was later transferred to the Police Hospital due to the severity of the injury and then to the 37 Military Hospital.
 
Due to the intensity of injury to the skull, the policeman unfortunately passed on around 10:00pm the same day. His body has since been deposited at the 37 Military Hospital Mortuary.
 
Meanwhile, the suspect, Daniel Ansah who also fell from the motorbike in the process sustained minor injuries and was sent to the Battor Roman Catholic Hospital.
 
He was discharged Thursday morning and is currently in the custody of the Kasseh Divisional Police Command to be sent to court.
 
Further checks by Atinkaonline.com indicate that the deceased arrested an Okada operator and demanded his ignition key, a request which was objected to by the Okada rider.
 
In the heat of struggle between the two in the middle of the road, another Okada rider hit the uniformed man in the process resulting in an intense damage to his skull.
The docket, according to the Ada West District Police Commander will be sent to the Attorney General’s department for an advise.
 
Provisional charges, have however been proffered against the suspect for riding motorbike without wearing helmet or safety gear and riding an unregistered motorbike.
