Kwabena Adu-Boahene

Former Director-General of the National Security Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu-Boahene, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic helicopter crash that occurred last Wednesday at Adansi-Brofoyedu in the Ashanti Region.

The crash claimed the lives of eight people, including two serving ministers, senior government officials, and military officers. Mr. Adu-Boahene described the incident as “a national wound that will take a long time to heal.”

In a heartfelt message, he extended his condolences to the families of the victims and to the entire nation. “Ghana has lost dedicated public servants and brave officers who served the country with honour,” he said.

Mr. Adu-Boahene shared a personal connection to one of the victims, the late Minister of Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, revealing that they both attended Pope Jones Secondary School. “This loss is deeply personal for me. He was more than a colleague — he was a mentor during our school days. It is painful to say goodbye under such tragic circumstances,” he said.

The victims were on their way to Obuasi when their helicopter went down. They included:

  • Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence
  • Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister of Environment, Science and Technology
  • Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, former Minister of Agriculture and acting National Security Coordinator
  • Samuel Sarpong, National Vice-Chairman of the NDC
  • Samuel Aboagye, Deputy NADMO Coordinator and former parliamentary candidate

The three Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) officers on board were:

  • Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala (pilot)
  • Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu (co-pilot)
  • Sergeant Ernest Addo-Mensah (crew member)

Mr. Adu-Boahene praised their service, saying their legacy of patriotism and sacrifice would never be forgotten. He also called on Ghanaians to unite in support of the grieving families.

“This is not a time for politics,” he said. “Let us stand together as one nation and honour the memory of those who gave their lives in service to Ghana.”
