AFCON 2023: Kudus attributes Black Stars’ abysmal  performance to poor concentration

Ghana Black Stars midfielder Mohammed Kudus believes the team’s  abysmal performance at the ongoing African Cup of Nations  is a major disappointment

Speaking to the media, Kudus who was adjudged man of the match for the second time said “We wanted to qualify for the next round of the AFCON but we could not, and for me it is a very big disappointment and failure. We need to learn from it and move on”.

When asked if the Stars’ performance was due to a lack of quality players, the West Ham United midfielder said, “This is not about quality, we lost the three points by losing focus, we were up by two goals and lost concentration within four minutes in the game,  we can’t concede such goals, today was a too-easy win for us. The same happened with Egypt and we lost concentration and conceded two silly goals”

Ghana in an attempt to secure the second spot in group B and ignore third place fell short, leaving Ghana with a slim chance of progressing.

Ghana must now rely on Algeria, Zambia, and Cameroon to lose their final games and have hope in their third-place ranking. Unable to advance to the next round will be Ghana’s consecutive early knock-out in AFCON, with Comoros kicking Ghana out in 2021.

Despite the disappointing result, Egypt qualified for the next round without winning a single game, obtaining three points in three draws.
