The Ministry of Youth and Sports has summoned the Ghana Black Stars over their abysmal performance in the ongoing 2021 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Ghana was eliminated in the group stage at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a 3-2 loss to tournament debutant Comoros.

Ghana fell behind in the fourth minute and had Captain Andre Ayew harshly sent off in the 25th, and was 2-0 down in the 61st.

The Black Stars leveled with two goals in 13 minutes late in the game, only to concede again when Comoros winger, Ahmed Mogni, swept his second goal in the 85th minute.

Ghana has made at least the semifinals in six of the last seven African Cups and was last dumped out in the group stage in 2006. Ghana finished last in Group C with the loss to Comoros.

After the defeat in the last match, the Black Stars have come under severe criticisms.

A statement signed by the Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Yussif, noted that the entire country is disappointed by the performance and early exit of the Black Stars in the 2021 AFCON.

The Minister added that the Sports Ministry is disappointed in the performance of the team despite government providing all the needed logistics and financial support for the team.

“The Ministry has summoned the Ghana Football Association (GFA) leadership to an emergency meeting scheduled for Friday 21st January 2022 to urgently discuss and take decisions aimed at salvaging the performance of the Black Stars especially in the next set of games,” the statement added.

Similarly, Former Coach of Legon Cities, Bashiru Hayford, has described the performance of the Black Stars at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations 2021 as disastrous.

Coach Bashiru Hayford has since asked GFA to analyze the performance of the Black Stars and work towards redeeming themselves in the next tournament.

“Honestly, this is the worst performance of Ghana in any AFCON tournament. We have never been eliminated in the group of any AFCON tournament. It’s sad and I can’t even mince words about it. We heaped all sort of insults on Kwasi Appiah, CK Akunnor. The best thing we have to do now is to analyze our performance and work towards a better performance next time,” Former Coach for Legon Cities, Bashiru Hayford told Kaakyire Ofori Ayim.
