AFCON21: Black Stars’ performance disastrous – Bashiru Hayford

Former Coach of Legon Cities, Bashiru Hayford, has described the performance of the Black Stars at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations 2021 as disastrous.

Four-time champion Ghana was eliminated in the group stage at the African Cup of Nations with a 3-2 loss to tournament debutant Comoros on Tuesday.

Ghana, who conceded in the fourth minute, had Captain Andre Ayew harshly sent off in the 25th minute , and was 2-0 down in the 61st.

The Black Stars leveled with two goals in 13 minutes late in the game, only to concede again when Comoros Winger, Ahmed Mogni, scored his second goal in the 85th minute.

Ghana has made at least the semifinals in six of the last seven African Cups and was last dumped out in the group stage in 2006.

Ghana finished last in Group C with the loss to Comoros, taking as out of the tournament.Commenting on the performance of the Blackstars in the AFCON 2021 with host of Atinka FM’s AM Drive Kaakyire Ofori Ayim, Former Coach for Legon Cities, Bashiru Hayford, maintained that the Black Stars could have performed better than they did.

Coach Bashiru Hayford has since asked GFA to analyze the performance of the Black Stars and work towards redeeming themselves in the next tournament.

“Honestly, this is the worst performance of Ghana in any AFCON tournament. We have never been eliminated in the group of any AFCON tournament. It’s sad and I can’t even mince words about it. We heaped all sort of insults on Kwasi Appiah, CK Akunnor. The best thing we have to do now is to analyze our performance and work towards a better performance next time,” Former Coach for Legon Cities, Bashiru Hayford told Kaakyire Ofori Ayim.
