A Deputy Communications Director for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ernest Owusu-Bempah, has said that Akufo-Addo’s “threats to vote out NPP don’t frighten me” comment has been taken out of context.
This statement comes after Akufo-Addo in response to threats to vote against the NPP because the government has not developed parts of the country as expected, stated that “If you decide to vote for the NDC in the general election, it is your choice and that is not my problem. No one will force you to vote for someone.”
“No problem. I am saying people make those kinds of threats; me they don’t frighten me.”
“Of course I understand the responsibility, we will deal with it, I will do the work” he stressed.
“I am a leader and I take responsibility,” he added.

After the comment, Akufo-Addo has come under scrutiny on social media.
Reacting to the development in a statement, Deputy Communications Director for the NPP, Ernest Owusu-Bempah said Akufo-Addo has been misquoted.
According to Owusu-Bempah the skewed publication of the President’s comment is out of malice or mischief.
“The president has been misquoted. The president said it is his utmost responsibility to develop the nation and he will do that. If someone says he will vote against him it is the person’s right. It was clear the President was accepting responsibility.
“The back stops with him and he says he will deal. The skewed publication is out of malice or mischief,” portions of the NPP’s statement said.
