AMERI renegotiation: Minority against new deal

The minority in parliament has taken the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to the cleaners for disregarding protocols in the Ameri renegotiation.

The controversial AMERI deal has undergone some renegotiations, in the new AMERI agreement a new company, Mytilineous International Trading Company, will take over the management of the AMERI power plant for 15 years.

The new company has offered to pay AMERI an amount of $52,160,560, with the government paying the remaining $39 million to the Dubai-based AMERI Energy to wash its hands off the deal entirely.

Government reportedly submitted a new agreement before Parliament to amend the AMERI deal.

Speaking to Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, Minority Ranking Member on Energy and Member of Parliament for Damango constituency, Adams Mutawakilu explained that it is unfair to renegotiate a deal when Ghana has just three years left to assume control of the plant under the old deal.

According to him, this document is very important and in the interest of Ghanaians hence their concerns.

Senior staff of the Volta River Authority (VRA) have also declared their opposition to the new arrangement on the AMERI power deal. According to them, the new deal will bring more hardship to the Ghanaians.
