DVLA mandated to collect luxury vehicle levy – GRA

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) says the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has been mandated to collect the collect the newly implemented luxury vehicle levy.

Finance Minister, Ofori Atta presenting the 2018 mid-year budget review July 19, 2018 announced government’s decision to implement a luxury vehicle levy.

Mr. Ofori Atta mentioned that after the implementation of the levy, all imported luxurious cars with 3.0 litres engine capacity and above will attract between GHS1000 and GHS2000 levy.

He, however, stated that commercials vehicles will be exempted.

Parliament has passed the bill and the implementation of the levy is effective August 1.

Speaking to Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, Commissioner General for the GRA, Emmanuel Kofi Nti explained that the DVLA has been mandated to collect the levy at the point of vehicle registration and subsequently on or before the annual renewal of the road worthy certificate of vehicles with 3.0 litres engine capacities.

He called on the general public to embrace the new levy and seek clarifications when the need arises.

“We all have to help and support the implementation of this new levy for the government to generate more funds to support government projects’, he added.

He however stated that tractors, ambulances, commercial vehicles that carry more than 10 people as well as vehicles which solely transports goods are exempted from the levy.
