Apiatse disaster: Mass burial for victims underway (Photos)

Burial service for victims of the Apiatse disaster is being held in the town today, Friday, March 11, 2022.

Fifteen month old Ella Baidoo, together with, Ekua Nyame (80), Justice Kwesi Takwa (21), Emmanuel Quainoo (29), Isaac Benyin (45), and Michael Afriyie (19) will be buried today.

Isaac Anane (35) who has also been laid in state at Apiatse will be taken to Dumase on the Bogoso Prestea Road for burial.

Four out of the thirteen were laid to rest last weekend, other two namely Emmanuel Awingura (24) and Eric Gyimah (24) will be taken away to their hometowns in the coming days.

Apiate Disaster granted

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Prestea-Huni Valley, Dr Isaac Dasmani, has revealed that the Apiatse Disaster Relief Committee has granted requests by families who would want to bury their deceased relatives privately.

This comes after the committee announced March 11, 2022, for the mass burial of victims of the Apiatse explosion in the Prestea-Huni-Valley Municipality of the Western Region.

13 persons died while 59 got injured in a huge explosion at Apiate, a town between Bogoso and Bawdie in the Western Region on Thursday 20th January 2022.

The explosion occurred when a motorcycle collided with a vehicle carrying mining explosives to a mining site on Thursday, 20 January 2022.

Apart from the deaths, the disaster displaced many after their homes were razed to the ground by the blast.
