Archibald Cobbina confirmed new MCE of Ayawaso Central with 100% votes

Assembly Members of the Ayawaso Central Municipal Assembly (ACMA) have confirmed the Greater Accra Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr Archibald Cobbina as the new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Assembly.

He was confirmed after all 16 present Assembly Members voted yes, securing him a 100 per cent votes after a peaceful election on Thursday, July 13, 2023.

On July 2, 2023, the Former MCE for Ayawaso Central, Mohammed Quaye, resigned on health grounds.

In a letter addressed to the Presidency, Mr Quaye said “Over the past six and half years, it has been my privilege and honour to serve the government of Ghana and contribute to the progress of the Ayawaso Central Constituency.”

However, he said his current health condition has significantly affected his ability to fulfill his duties and responsibilities effectively, despite his best efforts.

He therefore said it would be in the best interest of the municipality that someone would serve in his stead.

Due to this, the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo nominated the new MCE to be confirmed by the Assembly.

Mohammed Quaye handed over peacefully to Mr Archibald Cobbina after he was confirmed by the Assembly Members and called on all to support the new MCE to execute his mandate.

“Archibald as you all can testify  is a capable individual with a proven track record of service in this Constituency, I have every confidence that he will lead the Assembly with wisdom, compassion and a commitment to prove it, I therefore reiterate my pledge to fully support my Archibald Cobbina,” he stated.

The Newly confirmed MCE, Archibald Cobbina also thanked the President for nominating him, the Assembly Members for confirming him as well as all those who supported him to get to where he is.

“My vision is to tackle sanitation and beautification of the municipality. I have talked about education, health, LEAP, youth and development. We are going to carry all on board in the municipality. The Leadership of the Assembly including the Assembly Members will look into the various areas to assess the job done so far and look at how best we can continue,” he said.

He also noted that building the Assembly was about revenue mobilisation, underscoring the need to engage the communities and educate them on why they have to pay revenue to the Assembly.

Archibald Cobbina also said while the people paid revenue, they are also expected to know what their money is being used for considering development in the municipality.

For his part, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mr Henry Quartey who swore in the new MCE was of the belief that he will do a good job and assured to support him do it.

“All the Assembly Members voted for him. This means that our President did proper consultation and he Mentioned Archibald Cobbina’s name. This also means that whatever you do in life, do it well so that in future when it comes to you, people will recommend you,” He said

He said it was proper Archibald has been voted for, noting that he has served well since he started politics at Ayawaso, starting as an Assembly Member and to Regional Director of NADMO.

“Archibald has come, we know the work he did; he is hardworking, very committed, very dedicated, very loyal and he is very humble. He cuts across so I am of the firm belief that he will do a good job. I am going to work hand in hand with him and all the opinion leaders, stakeholders and everyone to ensure that we bring the constituency to speed,” Mr Henry Quartey added.
