Asamoah Gyan steps away from politics to focus on youth empowerment

Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has officially renounced his affiliation with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to concentrate on humanitarian efforts.

In a statement shared on his social media handle on X (formerly Twitter), Gyan, Ghana’s all-time leading goalscorer, expressed regret over his involvement in party politics, stating that it has not been fair to the country’s youth.

He announced that he would now step back from active political participation to focus on empowering Ghanaian youth through the Asamoah Gyan Foundation.

This decision comes after his involvement in political activities, including being named chairman of the Youth and Sports Manifesto sub-committee for NPP’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in February 2024, and joining him in a campaign walk in Akropong last month.

Gyan emphasized that moving forward, he will be committed to non-partisan work to better serve the youth of Ghana.

“I haven’t been fair to the youth and the people of Ghana. Henceforth I am not affiliated to any political party. I will continue with my humanitarian work and help the youth of Ghana in my own small way. Nothing political. I wish all the political parties a peaceful election on the December 7 elections. God bless our homeland Ghana. Thank you,” Gyan posted with the statement on X.
