The Director of Television at Atinka TV, Cynthia Akans, has called for greater attention to the welfare and concerns of teachers, stressing that quality education cannot be achieved without motivated educators.
Speaking at the maiden edition of the Atinka TV Teachers Forum at the Sika Hall in Accra, Mrs. Akans said teachers play a critical role in shaping the future of the country.
She noted that behind every doctor, lawyer, journalist, politician and business leader is a teacher who helped nurture and guide them.
Mrs. Akans said discussions about education often focus on infrastructure, textbooks, examinations and policies while the welfare of teachers is sometimes overlooked.
According to her, the Teachers Forum was inspired by discussions on television which revealed deeper challenges confronting teachers across the country.
She explained that the forum was initiated to create a platform for teachers, policymakers, education stakeholders and the public to openly discuss challenges within the education sector and find practical solutions.
“We cannot demand excellence from our teachers while ignoring their welfare,” she said.
Mrs. Akans stressed that the forum was not intended to be a platform for complaints alone but an opportunity for teachers to be heard and contribute to solutions.
She expressed hope that the initiative would help improve teacher welfare and the quality of education, adding that investing in teachers was ultimately an investment in Ghana’s future.
