Ayawaso Central: Archibald Cobbina to tackle sanitation

The newly confirmed Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Ayawaso Central Municipal Assembly (ACMA), Mr Archibald Cobbina has listed the sectors he will tackle as he took his new office.

The new MCE says he will tackle the challenges in the municipality including sanitation, education, health, community development, livelihood empowerment and as well help to mitigate climate change.

In all, he said revenue mobilization will be a top priority of his administration, noting that it is an essential nutrient for the municipality in its quest to implement sustainable development initiatives.

He gave the assurance at his confirmation and swearing in on Thursday, July 14, 2023 at the Health Directorate of the ACMA.

Due to the resignation of the Former MCE for Ayawaso Central, Mr Mohammed Quaye, the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo nominated the new MCE to be confirmed by the Assembly.

He was confirmed after all 16 present Assembly Members voted yes, securing him a 100 per cent votes after a peaceful election on Thursday, July 13, 2023.

Giving his acceptance speech, Mr Archibald Cobbina said,”Being someone who has lived most of his youthful life within the borders of this municipality and served as an elected Assembly Member for the Kokomlemle Electoral Area for two consecutive terms, I clearly understand the concerns of Hon. Members and the residents of their various electoral areas, and I pledge to carry those concerns on board in the exercise of my duties as the Municipal Chief Executive.”

He observed that the Municipality is still facing a number of challenges in terms of its development, appealing to all stakeholders to assist him confront those challenges so that the Municipality’s development will be enhanced holistically.
“I am keenly aware of the immense responsibilities that come with this position, and I assure you that I am fully committed to fulfilling them with utmost dedication, integrity, and transparency. Together, we will strive to achieve remarkable progress and create a brighter future for all residents of our municipality,” he said.

Revenue Mobilisation
Touching on Revenue mobilisation, Mr Archibald Cobbina said,”Revenue mobilization will be a top priority. It is essential for our municipality to have a robust financial foundation that will enable us to implement sustainable development initiatives. We will explore innovative strategies to increase revenue streams while ensuring fairness and accountability in our financial management.”

Education
On Education, he stated that,”Education is the key to unlocking the full potential of our youth and empowering future generations. I am steadfast in my commitment to improving educational infrastructure, enhancing the quality of teaching and learning, and providing equal opportunities for every child. We will work closely with stakeholders, parents, and educators to create an enabling environment that nurtures academic excellence and promotes lifelong learning.”

Health
For health, the MCE said,”Health is a fundamental right, and we must ensure that every resident has access to quality healthcare services. Our focus will be on making primary healthcare delivery accessible to all and implementing preventive measures to combat diseases. We will collaborate with relevant stakeholders to promote health awareness programs, strengthen our healthcare workforce, and prioritize the well-being of our residents within the municipality.”

Sanitation
In the case of sanitation, Mr Archibald Cobbina said,”Sanitation and beautification are essential for maintaining a clean and healthy environment. We will implement sustainable waste management practices, encourage waste segregation and recycling initiatives, and promote behavioral change among residents to keep our municipality clean. By beautifying public spaces and creating green areas, we will foster a sense of pride and create a welcoming atmosphere for all.”

Livelihood Empowerment
Meanwhile, he said,” Livelihood empowerment is crucial for economic growth and poverty alleviation. Through various skill development programs, vocational training through the government’s TVET Program, and entrepreneurship initiatives, we will equip individuals with the tools and resources they need to thrive. By fostering economic opportunities and supporting local businesses, we will create a vibrant local economy that benefits all residents.”

Community Development
He continued that,”Community development lies at the heart of our municipality’s progress. I pledge to engage actively with community leaders, traditional authorities, and residents to identify their needs, aspirations, and priorities. Together, we will implement community-driven projects, improve infrastructure, and enhance social services to build strong, resilient, and cohesive communities.”

Climate Change
Mr Archibald Cobbina observed that climate change has become an urgent global concern therefore the need to take proactive measures to mitigate its impact.

“I am committed to implementing environmentally friendly practices, promoting renewable energy sources, and raising awareness about climate change and its consequences. We will work towards making our municipality a model of sustainability and resilience in the face of a changing climate,” he said.

Agriculture
Touching on Agriculture, he said “Urban agriculture development will be an integral part of our vision for a sustainable future. By promoting urban farming initiatives, we will harness the potential of unused spaces to increase food security, create employment opportunities, and foster a stronger connection between our residents and their food sources.”

He therefore pleaded with every member of the municipality to support embark on the above listed issues in order to transform the municipality.

“I cannot do this alone; it will require the collective efforts of every member of our municipality. Together, let us embark on this transformative path, guided by the principles of inclusivity, transparency, and accountability. With your unwavering support and dedication, I am confident that we will achieve remarkable milestones and build a municipality that we can all be proud of,” he added.
