Bank of Ghana Denies Reports of Planned Sale of New Headquarters

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has strongly denied reports suggesting it is considering the sale of its newly constructed headquarters, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, the central bank responded to a publication by MyJoyOnline dated June 1, 2026, which alleged that the Bank was considering selling its new headquarters, reportedly valued at $260 million.

The Bank of Ghana stated categorically that it is neither considering nor discussing the sale of the facility.

“The Bank is not considering, discussing, or planning the sale of its new headquarters,” the statement emphasised.

According to the central bank, the headquarters remains a critical asset that was commissioned to support its operations and enhance efficiency in carrying out its statutory mandate.

The Bank warned that unverified reports concerning its operations could undermine public confidence in Ghana’s financial system and create unnecessary uncertainty in the market.

“We urge the public and the media to disregard this publication,” the statement said.
The Bank of Ghana reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and noted that all official communications are disseminated through its website, verified social media platforms, statements from its Communications Department, and signed releases from the Secretary of the Bank.

The central bank also encouraged media organisations to seek clarification directly from the institution before publishing reports related to its operations.
The statement was issued by the Communications Department of the Bank of Ghana on June 2, 2026.
