Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has stepped in to secure bail for the embattled Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, following his arrest earlier this week.
This was confirmed in a Facebook post by Deputy Communications Director for the Bawumia Campaign Team, Akbar Yussif Rohullah Khomeini, who revealed that Dr. Bawumia has “arranged all sureties” necessary for Wontumi’s release.

Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is currently under investigation for alleged fraud, causing financial loss to the state, and money laundering.
According to Akbar Yussif, Wontumi could be released as early as today, pending the completion of verification processes for the bail sureties.
“Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has arranged all sureties for the release of Chairman Wontumi. If the verification of the sureties is completed today, the Chairman will be released,” Khomeini wrote.
